Venerable
Meegahakumbure Dhammagavesi, the Chief incumbent of Lankarama
Buddhist Vihara has served the Buddhist community in
Sydney in a meaningful way since arrival in Sydney in 1992 upon
an invitation made by the Sri Lankan Buddhist Vihara
Association.
He was
born in 1962 at Uggalboda in the Kalutara District in Sri Lanka,
as the fourth son in a respectable family and was named

studying at the Vidyarathana Pirivena, ideas of a religious
discipline developed in his mind and as a result with the
blessings of his parents, he entered the robes in 1981.
Thereafter
he spent his time as a novice recluse in the Madakada Forest
Hermitage, under the able guidance of the Most Venerable
Ampitiye Mangala, the Chief incumbent of the Hermitage.
In 1982 he
received Higher Ordination in an August assembly of Maha Sanga,
headed by the Most Venerable Sirimalwatte Ananda, the Chief
incumbent of the Malwatta Chapter. |
